Wolf Erlbruch was born in 1948, he studied graphic design and was active in commercial field, until he started to write and illustrate books for children in the late 1980s. He is a professor at the University of Wuppertale (Germany). In addition to other awards, he received the Gutenberg´s Award of the Leipzig City in 2003 for his lifelong production and a special award for children´s literature in Germany. Most of his works were published by Peter Hammer Verlag. In 2006 he received the H. C. Andersen Award for his illustrations.
